dirt floor studio  featuring the work of James Orlando

about

When deciding what to name my studio, I went back to my first memories of creative practice and the small patch of dirt that sat in front of our home in Durban, South Africa. It was there that I would create scenarios; like visual plays that focused around weddings and funerals. The stream of lantana that lined the driveway became small bouquets for weddings or wreaths placed next to the sticks that marked the graves of any dead bugs or small animals that I found. As a visual storyteller, I work both as an object maker and as a narrative crafter. This website focuses primarily on my objects made from used sheets and blankets.
